Editing involves altering the raw footage from filming to create a narrative. This could be adding special effects, adding/creating CGI, putting the different scenes in cronological order, adding sound-audio, removing unneeded footage, adding and applying transitions etc. This is the post production stage.
Key terms: cutting, eye-line match, shot reverse shot structures.
Continuity Editing
This is the style of editing that is continuous in creating a narrative for the audience to undserstand. It appears to be 'invisible' using 'cuts'.
SACIE:
SHOT REVERSE SHOT STRUCTURE: this is when we cut from one shot to another and back again. This happens commonly in conversations between two characters. Talking about camera work helps to push a high grade: The shot reverse shot between the HP and A included a low angle of the villain to a high angle of the hp to connote the imbalance in power.
-If there is a HP talking to a HP it connotes equality and teamwork.
-If there is HP talking to A it connotes a power struggle and emphasises the juxtaposition of good vs evil.
ACTION MATCH:Action matches happen in action scenes. 1 action/ movement that is continuous over a number of shots. How does it challenge stereotypes?
- Protagonist shows how in control they are in combat scenes.
CROSS CUTTING: Cutting from one location to another location. It creates a sense of meanwhile.
INSERT SHOT: Focuses on a significant prop/iconography. This is to emphasise the importance/enigma.
EYE LINE MATCH: When we see a character look off screen and then it cuts to what they see.
